Who We Are Get In Touch

Who We Are

Professor Sir Jonathan Van-Tam (JVT), retired from HM Government service as England’s Deputy Chief Medical Officer in 2022, and from academic practice with the University of Nottingham in 2024.

Having served previously for 40 years: in the NHS as a doctor, in academic public health (235 peer-review publications to date), the pharmaceutical and vaccine industries, and UK central government, and having consulted extensively for WHO, ECDC and the European Commission, he has amassed almost unparalleled experience in understanding the interfaces between politics, government policy, technical advice to policy makers, clinical science, academic research and market access.

What We Do

JVT’s expertise is now available to clients. In the next, and likely final, stage of his career, he now seeks to add value to companies and corporations via a range activities including:

Clinical and epidemiological study design, focused on market access and market adoption

Market access – strategy and tactics

Navigating the increasingly complex public health policy stakeholder landscape

Understanding how policy officials approach issues, and how they interact with government ministers

Advice to a range of health and non-health clients on business touch-points with public health and public health policy, and product positioning

Advice to a range of health and non-health clients on communicating and leading with integrity and decency

JVT has a had an extremely diverse career, with many stories to tell, not least what happened during the Covid-19 (Sars-CoV-2) years. He is therefore a sought-after speaker for conferences and corporate events (for potential bookings, please use Enquiry Form)

How We Operate

01 |

Amber and Black (Notts) Limited provides services which are directly supplied by myself (JVT); there are no sub-contractors or juniors. What you see is what you get.

02 |

I work on a non-exclusive basis, with rigorous adherence to NDAs.

03 |

I only accept work assignments that I feel confident I can deliver exceptionally well.

04 |

I am happiest being part of your team for as long as it takes. My preferred modus operandi is to step inside your organisation and work closely with you on a project, as opposed to being given something to take away and work on in isolation.

05 |

I take on large and small assignments, from a few hours to intermittent efforts lasting several months.

06 |

I may not know every detail like I once used to, but for pharma clients I am exceptionally familiar with and sensitive to ABPI Code of Practice requirements and principles.

07 |

I fully understand conflicts of interest, the Nolan Principles of public life, and I am deeply sensitive to reputation management (yours and my own).

08 |

I remain GMC registered (No. 3241998) but have now rescinded my GMC Licence to Practice.
